Valisar III – Kings Wrath

Valisar III – Kings Wrath

The third, and last, installment of Fiona McIntosh’s gripping epic fantasy, set in a world torn by revenge, love and ancient magic.Loethar the Tyrant has established himself as the King of the Devona Set. No longer seen as a tyrant, his reforms and peace-making effort s have won over a section of society, especially since over the last 15 years, his people from the steppes have migrated and integrated int o the Devona kingdoms.Loethar no longer believes Prince Leo, the rightful heir to the throne, to be dead and hunts him and his outlaw allies; but another heir also exists – one the usurper should fear more than a prince on the run… and she has possession of the ancient Valisar enchantment.Having learnt the truth of her parentage, her world and her family’s fate, she must decide whether to stay and face the King’s wrath, or escape back into the world she has hidden within for so many years.

“A rising star.”

“McIntosh is an imaginative world-builder, writing fantasy that brims with complex characters, carefully laid intrigues and hair-raising violence. This series [The Valisar Trilogy] may be her best yet.”

    Hi Fiona
I absolutley loved this series. I found myself reading it out loud to my husband on numerous occasions. We could just imagine what it would look like on the big screen. Would beat Twiilight and Harry Potter hands down.
    Love your work Fiona :)

    • fiona says:

Oh, thank you, Jolene, so much! Wouldn’t it be grand if the story was made into a movie or tv series…although maybe it will have to be adults only! Valisar is my favourite trilogy…thanks for enjoying it and I hope your husband forgives you reading it aloud….grin.

Great first two books in the series.. Just bought King’s Wrath and whilst I have only read the first 20 odd pages it is a good as I expected. Great Characters, great story line….

( as I have grown to expect from your other series I have read)

Keep up the great stories and worlds !!!

    • fiona says:

Thrilled you’re enjoying, Kendal. Thank you for your generous comments. Just about to finish my new adult fantasy…probably by early next week.

Hi Fiona, I’m in the middle of reading the Valisar trilogy for the second time! I thought this time around i may be able to take the reading a little slower and make them last… but after finishing book 1 in a few days of train trips, i dont like my chances! I adore your writing and own all of your series and keep wishing and hoping that you will continue to write more about the Valisars in the future! Thank you for all of your hard work and wonderful imagination!

Hi Fiona, I have just finished The Valisar Trilogy, and I feel sorry for every other book I read from now on, as it will be unfairly judged by this series. The way you write makes it so easy to forget your reading and the words become vivid pictures in my head, to the point where I lose track of how long I have been reading (after book 1, I went and bought both book 2 and 3 and both were finished over a long weeked :) ). I can’t wait for your next book. Your characters are hauntingly imaginative and stir a raft of emotions. Their continual development never ceases to make me sad, happy, angry and perplexed haha. I’ve already given the series to my brother!

    • Fiona says:

      Hi Reg

Wow, thank you! Your note has made my day and I’m genuinely thrilled that Valisar has delivered on such a high level for you. Many believe it is my best series and it was certainly a story I ‘felt’ every step of the way. It was certainly an emotional tale too. Anyway, thank you again and I do hope your brother has fun with it. I hope you’ll read all of my fantasy and the next adult novel is a standalone that should be out toward the end of this year.
All best and happy reading. F

Just finished the Valisar trilogy in less then 3 weeks.
    Can’t wait to start Trinity!
    Thank You.

    Hi Fiona,
I’m thoroughly enjoying reading your books, my wife put me onto them about 3 months ago and I’ve just been given a kindle for my b’day so got book 2 of valisar trilogy on it(and finished it in a couple of days) as well as trinity series.
unfortunately i cant get book 3 yet because its not available through amazon in my region (NZ), even though i traveled through hong kong and france last week with my kindle and am currently in west africa. I’d download it if i could as i cant get to a bookstore, and would be hard pressed to find it where i am just now anyway. hope Kings Wrath is worth the wait. get your epublisher to open up the zoning to the rest of us and you might just sell some more books, that was why i got a kindle in the first place!. otherwise i’ll just go to the library when i get home and read it for free

    • Fiona says:

HI there….I know that frustrating feeling! So sorry you can’t get to King’s Wrath. Many reckon it’s the best book of all the three, possibly the best of the fantasies I’ve written. I can’t say – I think it’s a personal choice but it’s definitely worth the wait, no matter how you ultimately read it. Rights are a very tricky thing – and I don’t have all that much say. The industry is still learning and the internet is moving faster than most publishers can keep up right now. We’ll get there but again, my apologies that you’re a bit frustrated in West Africa. I spent a chunk of my early childhood living in Ghana. I wonder where you are? Wherever it is, happy travels and thanks for giving my books a go. I will certainly contact my Aust/NZ publisher and find out more. Safe travels and happy reading. F

Great series!! When I first looked at it I didn’t know what to expect, but this trilogy has become my favourite of all time! Why isn’t this being made into a movie instead of Twilight? Awesome stuff Fiona

    • Fiona says:

Oh why indeed! Wouldn’t a movie be fun. Hmm but that early scene with Loethar and his carnivorous habits :) Thank you, I truly love this series too and it’s my favourite that I’ve written – particularly how the characters twist. Really happy to know it hit the mark for you. Thanks so much. Hopefully The Scrivener’s Tale in a month or two when it’s released will join your list of much enjoyed. Thanks Jimi.

    • Fiona says:

Thanks, Jimi. This is how every writer should begin her working day!

  8. Imogen says:

    Dear Fiona,

I only finished reading King’s Wrath about an hour ago, and I loved, and hated, it so much! It twisted and turned so much of the time, and I enjoyed every second. I hated those who I thought I would always love, and loved and appreciated those that I thought I would hate to the end. The relationships were so complex, and embarrassingly enough, had me near tears more than a few times. The heartbreak that some of your characters went through.
I would DEFINATELY love to see this series come to a movie… but not just one movie, but three, to do your novels justice.
But, I have to say this…. that ending? Will we be reading more of the Valisars in future? Please, please, please (!) tell me yes.
I have read all your other trilogies, and will be buying The Scrivener’s Tale ASAP.

    Thank you for writing,
    Imogen

    • Fiona says:

      Hello Imogen

Thanks so much. King’s Wrath…sigh….I loved that book. Thrilled you did too. There was just something about the way characters seemed to turn themselves inside out and surprise me. I had no idea any of that was coming – it’s the way I write and I loved the surprise of who I was finding myself loving and loathing too. It was a complex series – I agree. I personally think it’s my best because it kept me as much as the reader guessing. But only the reader – you – can make that call and I am certainly very happy to know that it kept you emotionally engaged. Wow – a movie. Fab, eh? What a lovely thought. I haven’t thought about the Valisars beyond that ending. Until The Scrivener’s Tale I haven’t returned to any landscape and Scrivener is my 23rd novel so I’ve been true to that creed for a long time. But it just felt right when I was planning to craft a single volume that I didn’t chew up a lot of words with building a new world but I returned to a familiar one that readers enjoyed and I knew well. Pearlis and the landscape of Morgravia in The Quickening seemed the perfect foil for contemporary Paris that the book opens in. Thank you for giving The Scrivener’s Tale a go. Hope you enjoy it!

  9. Ray says:

    Hi,
I just came across book 1 of the Valisers trilogy. An awesome read. I live in a remote town in Labrador, Canada so it is sometimes very hard to get new novels. Hopefully, I can download the other two books and eread them. I have to know what develops and how the story ends.

    • Fiona says:

HI Ray…greetings from a sweltering Australia…well, where I am anyway and wonderful to hear from you. Of course I’m thrilled that you’ve enjoyed Royal Exile, book one and yes I do hope you can find the other two books. You’re looking for volume 2 – Tyrant’s Blood and then volume 3 – King’s Wrath. Perhaps my best trilogy and a story I loved writing! Thanks for giving it a go. You live in a beautiful part of the world…my husband is always talking about it. I really must visit sometime!

      Best, F

I’m glad I picked up the Valisar Trilogy (the cover art was what I’d like on books). Absolutely loved reading it, so much so that I finished the three books in just under two days! Can’t wait to try your other work as well. I was taken aback at how dark some people could become but thanks for writing and sharing this with us :)
